Community Chandelier seeks Community Space
Late last year, I was offered space in a top San Francisco showroom, Coup d’Etat, to hang an electrified version of a candle-lit chandelier from my portfolio of work. It was a large undertaking to create the first one and this next one would be no less so. I had less than three months to re-design, raise funds, build and install this sculpture.
I decided that the ideal way to realize this work would be to make it a Community Chandelier. It was a simple concept; the community contributes to building it and, in turn, the community will own it. Once it has lived a full and productive life in the showroom (orders will be taken from it while it is there), I am donating it to a community space.
I need your input.
Do you know of a perfect building, with free public-access, that would like to own and hang this chandelier? I would love to see it in San Francisco City Hall, the new SFJazz Center (under construction in Hayes Valley) or any other Bay Area space where lots of people will have the opportunity to enjoy it. If you are a representative of such a building, or know of someone who is, please submit your suggestions below or pass along this info to a friend.

The chandelier made its debut on February 1, 2012 at Coup d’Etat. Please go see it in person. Photos are no substitute.

This is a competition for the perfect space.
I will be accepting submissions until May 18th. After all submissions are in, a three-person panel will decide the winning location.
Panel
#1 – I am pleased to announce that Zahid Sardar, a well known and highly respected San Francisco author, design columnist, writer, editor and book designer, has agreed to be one of the judges.
#2 – Anyone that donated to the project will also have a chance to vote on their preferred location. The people’s choice from that round of votes will become the second vote on the panel.
#3 – I am still selecting the third judge.
